St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Center, NY
Wicks, Opus 6393, c: 2000, III/III/85
Long Island’s Catholic Cathedral has a membership of over 7000 families and to say this is a busy liturgical space would be an understatement. There are often multiple daily masses including some of high profile. Co-music directors, Michael Bower and Michael Wustrow serve the parish on a full time basis keeping well abreast of the ever-pressing musical needs of an important and busy church.
Since its installation, the Wicks has endured a number of lightning strikes, some nearly direct to the heart of its electronic switching systems. Matched, dual consoles make for a large and complex relay. The decision to install an all new Classic relay was made after a massive lightning strike during a snow storm in January of 2011.
Consoles and installation of their related chamber equipment, will be tackled one at a time so the organ can remain in place and playing during this special undertaking. Work began in June of 2011 and will be finished by Christmas 2011. |
